Animated Header
03.27.09 (8:23 pm)   [edit]

It does indeed, look the same, but stare at it for about 10 seconds and something will happen.
Hopefully this is the beginning of many more moving headers, as I can just imagine the possibilities.
I'm aware of the slight lag of the image, but I can say safely that it will be fixed as soon as I find a good speed for frame movement.

What do you guys think of it?

The Watchmen Review
03.21.09 (3:23 pm)   [edit]

I apologize for the lateness of this and other blog posts; I have been preoccupied in my spring break with... Boredom.
So, I published a mini review from my PSP, and that pretty much summed up my view of the movie: here is a more in depth review.

Out of 5 stars, I'd give it a 4.5.

The story: 4.5 stars
It was a very busy story, you definitely have to be awake and paying attention for the whole 2 and some hours to really get the picture. It's more of a psychological examination rather than a superhero movie, and it does a beautiful job of showing what happens when superheroes fall from grace and the effects being a 'hero' can have on your mind. More on that later. It can be a tad confusing at times for some people, but fanatics of the comic will no doubt have an understanding of the story that people who just walked in to see nudity and face bashing will not have.
That's probably the reason why the newspapers are making the story a low point; I totally recommend you do your research, even just a little so you don't feel like an idiot or that this is a crappy story.

The characters: 4.5 stars
I loved the characters, some of them were weak at times, but it's mostly a solid performance from some actors with modest popularity. Silk Spectre and Ozymandias appeared to me as the characters the story could have done without, even though they both play very important parts in it. The casting people could have at least found people with better acting skills for Ozymandias, since he just comes across to me as a prick in a cape and a British accent. Silk Spectre was mostly fine, if not a tad generic, that's my only gripe with her.
Dr. Manhattan and Nite Owl, I'm on middle ground on. Again, the acting could have been better, but the 'not caring but for you' attitude of Doc Manhattan made me love the character instantly. Nite Owl does a decent job of protraying the psychological impact of heroism, being a dork of sorts by day and a retired brawler by night.
Rorschach and The Comedian are what made me give this the extra '.5' marks. My personal favorite is Rorschach, being the anti social retard that he is; he reminds me of myself on a particularly bad day. He is a cynic, and everybody loves a cinematic cynic; look at Heath Ledger if you don't believe me. The Comedian was more than a cynic, though, he was a full out bastard. He killed children, raped other superheroes, shot a Vietnamese woman he got pregnant... But again, he was so compelling, especially when he started having doubts about his morality. Both Rorschach and the Comedian are both acted to Heath Ledger's Joker's awesomeness, in my opinion. Morality is a huge theme in this movie, read on for that.

Themes: 5 stars.
This is where Watchmen really shines. It would take me more than an article to properly emphasize all that happened in each individual character's psyche that made them the way they are, so I'll just sum it up in a few sentences. Superheroes used to be called superheroes. Then they became outlawed, some murdered and the few continuing their 'heroism' are branded as vigilantes. You can imagine what that would do to your mind; being on top of the world and loved by everyone, then suddenly you get dropped and ... It's different for each character, but that's basically it.

Visual Presentation: 5 stars!
This is where fanatics and new viewers can really agree. There are enough fights and blood to satisfy the action movie fans, but the elegance and fluidity of the fights are only really noticeable when you actually look for them. I spent most of Rorschach's fights watching him beat down swarms of creeps, and every punch he throws, every face he breaks, he does it all in cold calculation. The same can be said for Nite Owl, but he fights more like Batman.
The atmosphere is satifyingly dark, creating enough visual contrast from the somewhat colorful vigilantes and the grimy streets of New York city. It's something you really can't explain in words, you really have to see it to understand it.

So, that is what Watchmen is. It's something you have to see for yourself and find out how truly awesome it is.

Watchmen: A Mini Review
03.16.09 (8:05 pm)   [edit]
Watchmen was a great movie, but as expected, it came short of The Dark Knight greatness. The story is as good as TDK's, but a lot of people would disagree due to confusion; you have to be a little familiar with the comic to fully understand the movie. The vigilantes had solid acting, with the exception of Ozymandias and Silk Spectre. I think the best of the bunch was Rorschach, with his violent psyche expertly portrayed by an actor I'd never heard of...

New Rorschach Blog Header
03.10.09 (7:29 pm)   [edit]

I think this is the best blog header I made so far that wasn't simply just a... Simple copy and paste edit, no, I went full-out for this header.
It is obviously influenced by Watchmen, as evident in the Watchmen-esque font and placement, and the profile of Rorschach!

So what do you guys think about it? Outside comments are welcome, as well as comments from Tblog members.

The Watchmen...
03.09.09 (10:04 pm)   [edit]

Yes, I was grounded. I was grounded for a whole week, so I missed the new episode of Lie To Me and my friends on the Playstation Network on Friday.
I also missed the Watchmen, as I was supposed to watch it on opening day with the costumed fanatics sweating off a third of their 300 pounds in a Nite-Owl suit or the odd transsexual in the Silk Spectre spandex and the beard.
Yes, I missed all the things that make opening night so much fun to go to, and when I go see it on Friday, I'll probably be stuck with the parents who finally agreed reluctantly to bring their kids to see a thug's face get smashed in by a psychologically unstable vigilante and a blue guy's dick. Oh, and explosions. Lots and lots of glorious explosions.
[By the way, that isn't the actor's junk, he wore shorts and they superimposed a blue radioactive donk on him.]

I'm not gonna get too deep in the philosophical questions surrounding this movie, it's characters, and the Watchmen premise altogether, but I will as soon as I read the book and watch the movie, probably not in that order.
Besides, you can probably find those philosophical ramblings from certified ramblers on Google.

So I'm gonna see it Friday. It sure as hell won't be The Dark Knight, but I'm hoping that it can touch on even a little of The Dark Knight's awesomeness, after all, the trailers looked awfully kickass.
Then again, the TV spots and trailers for War with Jet Li and Jason Statham also made the movie look good... 10 bucks later, I'm there pissed off.

Is it safe?

My blog activity has been down by at least 50% since I turned off unregistered user comments and as you can expect, that's not good for me...
So, tBlog members, is it safe to put unregistered comments back after that barrage of "Nice Article" spam sh!t?

My Current Hunt
03.02.09 (7:26 pm)   [edit]

Yes, I am a quitter. I've given up on the Movie Masters Two Face upon finding out that it hasn't been released yet and having already phoned comic shops and ToysRus' like mad. Well, now, I've a new obsession. Or an old obsession, if you've been keeping up with my network since I launched it in 2005 (I had a bunch of other sites, but none of them gave me the customization or user friendliness I needed.).
Marvel Legends, by ToyBiz of course. For those that don't know, TBML (as we'll call them) is like a movable McFarlane action figure. It has the same level of detail with the sculpt, sometimes problematic paint, and some many points of articulation you'd feel like you were controlling a little person when playing with it.

Ok, that's it for the intro, here we go. I'm looking for the TBML series 6 Deadpool, yes, the one with the guns, the swords, and that green waste of plastic. And the pure awesomeness, remember that. TBML 6 is the series with Juggernaut and Movie Punisher, both of which I already have and are excellent figures. Hopefully Deadpool is as fun to play with, and a quick survey of the internet suggests so. But I do hope as well that Deadpool isn't as big of a pain in the ass to find as Juggernaut was. I have 2 weeks to find this thing, whereas the Juggernaut took me well over half a year to find in the comic store 3 blocks away from my house.

So my search begins, andd I'll continously update on my status.

Unfortunately, there is a douchebag that has decided to spam the general users of Tblog. Even though I'm nowhere near a popular blog, it stills spams me. So I, like many of the members, have disabled comments from unregistered users, so only members of Tblog can comment on our blogs.

I apologize for any inconvenience, though what inconvience could this cause?

Stop it!

I thank you, spammer, for spamming in a polite way, but spamming is spamming, no matter what the heck you say.
You keep on saying "Nice Article" multiple times in a single article, and that's cool if you say it once in a while.
Automatic machine designed to keep shitting us or not, stop it, or I'm gonna get pissed.
And you won't like the Scourge when he's pissed.
